The 20 g/m² carbon fibre veil improves surface coverage and finish quality of composite laminates. It helps reduce print-through, pinholes and minor surface irregularities and is suitable for epoxy, polyester and vinyl ester resin systems.
Description
The 20 g/m² carbon fibre veil is designed as a lightweight surface and functional layer for high-quality composite laminates. Its higher areal weight provides improved surface coverage and supports the formation of a smooth, resin-rich finish.
The uniform distribution of the short carbon fibres helps minimise print-through of the underlying reinforcement, reduces pinholes and other surface imperfections, and can significantly reduce sanding, filling and polishing operations.
Despite its improved covering performance, the veil remains lightweight and adds only minimal weight to the finished laminate. It is also suitable for electrically conductive or electrostatic dissipative surface layers.
Benefits
The higher areal weight provides improved surface levelling while maintaining excellent resin absorption. The veil produces a more uniform laminate surface, reduces common surface defects and offers slightly more robust handling than ultra-light surface veils.
Typical Applications
Typical applications include automotive engineering, motorsport, aerospace, tool and mould making, mechanical engineering and model making. It is also suitable for exposed carbon fibre components and electrically conductive or electrostatic dissipative surface layers.
Processing
The veil is applied as the surface layer and fully impregnated with the selected resin system before the structural reinforcement layers are added.
Suitable for the following composite manufacturing processes:
- Hand lay-up
- Vacuum infusion
- RTM (Resin Transfer Moulding)
- Filament winding
- Pultrusion
- Compression moulding (subject to material and process compatibility)
Uniform and complete resin impregnation is essential for optimum surface quality. Preliminary trials are recommended.

Technical Notes
The carbon fibre veil is designed as a surface and functional layer and is not intended to provide structural reinforcement. It should always be used together with suitable reinforcement fabrics or unidirectional materials.
The specified surface resistance was measured under defined test conditions. The electrical properties of the finished laminate depend on the resin system, laminate design and electrical contacting.
*Measured using a 75 × 75 mm Vermason contact block with a centrally applied load of 1 kg.
