Carbon fibre sheets, twill, mat

CFK plates made from carbon prepreg with a matt twill surface for lightweight and stiff components.
Depending on the plate thickness, applications range from thin covers and panels to structural reinforcement and support elements. The pressed prepreg construction provides a uniform laminate structure, high dimensional stability and a high-quality, low-reflection carbon surface.

The carbon fibre plates are manufactured from high-quality HT carbon fibre prepregs with a transparent epoxy resin matrix and cured under pressure. This process produces a compact, uniform laminate with a high fibre volume fraction and good dimensional and shape stability.

The visible outer layers consist of carbon fabric in twill weave and show the characteristic diagonal carbon pattern. The matt surface produces significantly fewer reflections than high-gloss CFK plates. This is advantageous for both technical applications and visible components.

Laminate construction

The laminate construction is adapted to the respective plate thickness. The very thin plates consist of carbon fabric prepreg. For greater thicknesses, additional unidirectional carbon prepreg layers are placed between the twill outer layers in a 0°/90° orientation. This creates a balanced structure with high stiffness in both principal directions.

Properties

In practical applications, CFK is particularly useful wherever high stiffness is required at the lowest possible component weight. Compared with simple hand laminates, the pressed prepreg construction provides a very uniform structure and reproducible surface quality.

Machining and bonding

The plates can be sawn, milled, drilled and sanded using tools suitable for CFK. For clean edges, sharp, wear-resistant tools and secure fixing of the workpiece are recommended. When sawing, milling or sanding, the resulting carbon dust should preferably be extracted directly at the source.

For bonding, we recommend lightly abrading the surface in the bonding area, removing dust thoroughly and degreasing the surface. Epoxy resin adhesives are particularly suitable for structural joints with CFK components.
