Optiveil™ Glass non-woven 30 g/m², width 127 cm
USA: width 39.37", weight 0.9 oz/yd²
Surface and Carrier Veil
Heavier surface veil for resin-rich surface layers: Optiveil® E-glass veil 30 g/m² is particularly suitable for composite components where a more pronounced resin-rich surface layer is required. Compared with the 17 g/m² grade, the veil is thicker and has a higher tensile strength. It can be used as a surface, carrier or stabilising layer.
Suitable for epoxy and polyester resins.
Optiveil® E-glass veil 30 g/m² is a wet-laid veil made from short, uniformly distributed E-glass fibres. Its highly porous structure provides good resin uptake and uniform wet-out.
Used as a surface veil, it forms a fine, resin-rich layer between the component surface and the coarser reinforcement. This supports the production of uniform, high-quality composite surfaces.
With a thickness of approx. 0.27 mm, the 30 g/m² grade is considerably heavier than the lightweight 17 g/m² version. The veil can also be used as a carrier and stabilising layer for resins, adhesives and dry reinforcements such as fabrics, non-crimp fabrics and UD materials.
Typical Applications
Suitable for surface and intermediate layers in GRP and CFRP components, as a carrier veil for resins and adhesives, and for stabilising dry reinforcement materials. Further applications include technical laminates as well as corrosion-resistant tanks and piping systems.
Processing
When used as a surface veil, Optiveil® is placed close to the laminate surface and fully impregnated with resin. Its open structure supports uniform wet-out.
Suitable manufacturing processes include hand lay-up, vacuum infusion, RTM, RIM, compression moulding, filament winding and pultrusion.
