Female threaded insert with round, perforated Ø 38 mm base plate for broad load distribution in composite and plastic components.
The MSF2 S38 composite threaded inserts can either be embedded directly into a laminate or subsequently bonded using a suitable structural adhesive. The cylindrical insert provides a compact, permanently integrated internal-thread attachment point.
MSF2 S38 Composite Threaded Inserts
The MSF2 S38 consists of a cylindrical female threaded insert permanently attached to a round, perforated Ø 38 mm base plate.
It is suitable for laminates and moulded components where a reliable internal-thread attachment point is required but access for a conventional nut on the rear side is not possible or structurally undesirable. Typical applications include composite construction, vehicle and boat building, model making, mould making and equipment construction.
Load Transfer via the Base Plate
The Ø 38 mm base plate distributes tensile and shear loads over a larger area of the laminate or bonded joint. The perforations allow resin or adhesive to pass through and thereby support mechanical anchoring of the fastener.
The designation S38 identifies the open (“sighted”) version. The internal thread is open at the underside, allowing a sufficiently long screw to extend beyond the threaded insert. If required, corresponding clearance must be provided in the component.
Processing
Laminating in / embedding
The base plate should be integrated as uniformly as possible into the laminate structure. For more highly loaded joints, adequate integration into the reinforcement layers is important.
Subsequent bonding
Alternatively, the base plate can be bonded to a finished component using a suitable structural adhesive. The bonding surfaces must be clean, dry and free from grease, dust and release agents. For uneven surfaces, a sufficiently thixotropic, gap-filling structural adhesive is recommended.

Technical Notes
- The achievable load-bearing capacity depends in particular on the laminate structure, integration of the base plate and the resin or adhesive system used.
- With sandwich components, local overloading of the skins and core material must be avoided.
- For CFRP components exposed to moisture, the electrochemical compatibility between the carbon fibres and the metallic fastener should be considered; galvanic isolation may be required depending on the application.
- For safety-relevant or highly loaded joints, we recommend testing the complete connection on the intended component under realistic service conditions.
