Carbon fabric 245 g/m² (twill weave), width 100 cm

The twill weave with 6 ends/cm in both warp and weft provides good drapability over radii and three-dimensional component contours. At 245 g/m², the fabric provides more fibre mass per ply than lighter carbon fabrics, allowing laminate thickness to be built up efficiently.

Properties and processing

The twill weave has fewer yarn interlacings than a plain weave, allowing it to conform more easily to curved mould surfaces and complex component geometries. The balanced yarn count provides reinforcement in both principal fibre directions. Its characteristic diagonal pattern also makes the fabric suitable for high-quality visible carbon components.

The fabric can be processed with suitable epoxy, vinyl ester and polyester laminating resin systems. Epoxy resin systems are generally preferred for mechanically demanding CFRP laminates. Maintain accurate fibre alignment during cutting and lay-up, as twill fabrics may be prone to yarn displacement. Complete fibre wet-out and careful air removal are particularly important in multi-ply laminates. The stated mechanical properties refer to the carbon fibres, not to the finished laminate.

Material selection

For larger continuous cut pieces, the 125 cm twill-weave fabric (CT-245125T) is available. Where finer control of laminate thickness or lower reinforcement weight per ply is required, the 200 g/m² twill-weave carbon fabric (CT-200100T) provides a lighter alternative.
